A beautiful mid-century glazed ceramic planter or highly collectible vase by Hedi Schoop, acclaimed California ceramic artist. Featuring hand-painted butterflies, gold details on the rim and silhouette of the butterflies, along with the eclectic "S" shape of this planter, make this piece an incredible find. Better buy this piece soon before I fill it with succulents! Piece could be used in a variety of ways, but the shape lends it well to being a  planter!

Hedi Schoop was one of the designers at the forefront of the era of Mid Century ceramic design. According to the Venice Clay Artists Society, Schoop, "Having fled Europe in 1933 with her composer husband (Friedrich Hollander), she resettled in California and in 1940 opened up a pottery studio in Hollywood, focusing on the popular figurines along with planters, ashtrays, lamps, bowls and vases. Her innovative California pottery designs were style defining at this time and widely imitated."

Signed "425 Hedi Schoop California." In very good vintage condition - with some markings on the inside of the planter.
